Congratulations to Northeast Ohio Preparatory School for winning an Outstanding Teacher Retention award at the annual leadership summit held this July. Despite an ongoing shortage of teachers nationwide, UCP was one of 12 schools recognized for creating a thriving workplace that retains talented and engaged teachers.
Recognizing the hard work and success of our schools and school leaders is an important tradition at ACCEL Schools. While schools across the country are still recovering from challenges related to the pandemic, we have seen a surge in success from schools serving historically underrecognized communities.
“We are mission driven to make quality education available to all children regardless of geographic location or life circumstances,” said ACCEL Schools CEO Ron Packard who presented the awards on July 17. “It is an honor to recognize the staff and leadership who are putting ACCEL’s ideals into action and creating positive change in the lives of the students and communities who need it most.”
Congratulations to every member of our NEO school community for contributing to our success in 2023. We are honored to accept this Accely award on behalf of our entire team and look forward to another extraordinary school year.
On May 26, Northeast Ohio Preparatory Academy School celebrated its Class of 2023 during a 6:30pm commencement ceremony held at Near West Theater. Valedictorian Anyla Jones and Salutatorian Milagros Redondo were honored during the ceremony that featured a spoken word performance from senior Antwone Barbour. NEO alumna Nicole Williams shared advice about life after high school. Educator, minister, and community leader Teresa Sayles delivered the keynote address where she offered words of support and wisdom for graduates.
The future looks bright for NEO seniors who earned a total of $865k in scholarship funds. Additionally, 20 seniors are on the preliminary list to receive full scholarships through the Say Yes to Cleveland program. Of the 30 seniors in the graduating class, 26 received their diplomas during the commencement ceremony. Four students are expected to complete the credits necessary for graduation this summer. Eleven students will be attending a 4-year college or university. Two students have been accepted to trade schools and one scholar will be enlisting with the Navy. All students have been accepted to Cuyahoga Community College. All together, seniors were accepted to a total of 22 colleges and universities, including five Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Principal Veda Giles-Weeks offered her congratulations saying, “We’re very proud of our seniors for their hard work and dedication these past four years. We are confident that they have the academic ability, character, and life skills to be successful as they go on to college and career pursuits.”
